Welcome to
The Farm
Our Story
Lisa and Matt Jaroch founded Cold Frame Farm in 2012.
Lisa left a successful career as a landscape architect to pursue her dream of running an organic farm. She and Matt turned a 27-acre patch of land in Romeo, Michigan into a thriving farm, producing a wide variety of nutrient-dense produce for restaurants and members of the local community.
Our Name
The Farm is named after a traditional horticultural tool called a cold frame.
Dating back to ancient Rome, cold frames are low, enclosed beds with transparent tops typically made of glass. For hundreds of years, they have been used to maximize solar exposure and extend the growing season in cold weather climates. Here at the Cold Frame Farm, our hoop houses—which are a larger, more-modern take on the traditional cold frame—allow us to grow and harvest in every season.
Our mission
We’re committed to regenerative farming practices that restore the landscape and foster a sustainable way of living. But most importantly, we work to contribute to the health and happiness of our neighbors and friends.
Our values
Organic
We are a certified organic farm, recognized by the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA) and the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP).
Sustainable
We believe that healthy soil leads to healthy crops and—ultimately—healthy people. So we use sustainable farming practices that enrich the soil and protect its valuable microbes. Better for the crops. Better for the planet.
Innovative
We believe there’s always more to learn about how to support the health of our bodies and the landscape around us. That’s why we’ve partnered with students at Oakland University to research local wildflowers, berries and pollinator species.
